THE WORD GOSPEL MEANS
GOOD NEWS

The good news I'm talking about is simply described in the Bible as: Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again (1 Cor 15:1-4).

According to this definition: Jesus Christ, His death for our sins, His burial and His resurrection, are what the gospel is all about. That's the good news of this definition.

But the definition also contains bad news. We are sinners. The reason why Christ died was for our sins, which means that we are sinners. Basically, this means that we have been missing the mark of God's high standard for us.

Without the gospel our sins would ultimately end us up in eternal separation from God in an awful condition of eternal torment. Because of the gospel God accepts us on account of His Son instead of rejecting us on account of our sins, and gives us eternal life.

The Bible calls this good news "the gospel of God" (Rom 1:1; 15:16). It is about His Son, Jesus Christ, so it is also called "the gospel of his Son" and "the gospel of Christ" (1:2, 9; 15:19, 29).

Twice in Scripture the Apostle Paul, writing under divine inspiration, calls the gospel "my gospel" (Rom 2:16; 16:25). One day by faith he had reached out and made the gospel of God and of Christ his own gospel.

Have you done the same thing? Can you say that one day by a definite act of faith you made the good news of God and of Christ your own good news?

Scripture says of Jesus that He will save His people from their sins. And Scripture calls for our personal application of that salvation, telling us to believe in the Lord Jesus in order to be saved. The instant we believe the power of the gospel saves us (Matt 1:21; Acts 16:31; Rom 1:16).

If you cannot say "my gospel" and my salvation and my Savior, with regard to Jesus Christ, take that step of faith right now. If you believe in God's Son you will have eternal life (Jn 3:16).

YOURS TRULY

I was giving a seminar on Bible
prophecy. At the first session my
wife gave the students a course handout at the door as they entered. When I began the session I said, I'm George Atha, the lady that gave you your handout is my wife, Marilyn Atha, and my subject is maranatha."

THE MEANING OF THE FISH

The fish symbol is seen in the Greek word for fish (ichthus, spelled: Iota Chi Theta Upsilon Sigma). That is an acrostic for "Jesus Christ, of God, the Son, the Savior"
[Iesous (Jesus) CHristos (Christ) THeou (of God) Uiou (the Son) Soter (the Savior)].
